The Story
Words by Liza Antrim
Unlike its predecessors — Family & Friends’ Dolls’ Houses of the 17th, 18th & 19th Centuries and Family Dolls’ Houses of the 18th & 19th Centuries — this book is about a ‘modern’ dolls’ house, commissioned to fulfil a dream. It is the sort of house I had always had phantasies about living in, but perhaps it was all the better for being a chimera. A chance meeting with its creator, David West, led to a long and fruitful friendship, and this book is a celebration of his work and of the many other makers who contributed to its furnishings.
